History
Club Beginnings
In February, 1991, nine Boxer lovers founded the Greater Twin Cities Boxer Association(GTCBA). Their goal was to have a club that worked FOR the Boxer, including such activities as rescue work, training help, breeding advice, and eventually staging AKC-licensed Boxer specialty shows.
At the Charter Meeting in April, 1991, 56 people signed as charter members.
Since then the club has matured into one of the most successful breed clubs in the United States. Now known as the Northwoods Boxer Club, membership reached 150 households in 1996, and continues to grow.
In 1995, the Northwoods Boxer Club became a member club of the American Boxer Club (ABC) and achieved recognition as a sanctioned club from the American Kennel Club (AKC).
Becoming a Member
Membership to Northwoods Boxer Club is open to anyone who loves Boxers, supports the club's goals, and agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics established by the American Boxer Club. Membership is comprised of a broad group of Boxer enthusiasts ranging from conformation breeders, long-time pet owners to first time rescue owners! Membership dues are collected annually and are $20 for an individual, $25 for a family, and $5 for a Junior (under age 18). By becoming a member, you'll support club activities such as boxer rescue and our holter monitor program. Members also receive "Boxer Shorts" a quarterly club newsletter and are invited to participate in club events such as our Bonfire and Spring Fling.
