Not all boxers are suitable for all family situations, and not all families are suited for a boxer. For the lucky few, Boxer Rescue finds them, nurses their minds and bodies, and readies them for a new life.
From its beginning, Northwoods Boxer Club and its members have supported Boxer rescue, organizing a committe of volunteers to operate a program to "rescue" unwanted homeless Boxers, and find homes for all adoptable Boxers in and around Minnesota. There are many reasons Boxers come to need us. Rescue is a safety net for the lost, neglected and unwanted, as well as Boxers relinquished by their owners due to unexpected hardships.
Northwoods Boxer Club Boxer Rescue program is on file as a rescue organization with all the humane societies in the Twin Cities area as well as with many veterinarian clinics and humane societies throughout Minnesota. These organizations and vet clinics work together with Boxer Rescue to make our rescue program work.

What does the adoption fee cover?
The adoption fee is put into a medical fund to help defray the cost of routine medical examinations, vaccinations, permanent identification (microchip), spaying/neutering or other required medical care for each Boxer that comes into our care.
Once a Boxer is in our care, a complete veterinarian check-up is given to evaluate the overall health of the dog. Based on this evaluation, with consideration of the dog's age, health and soundness, any decision regarding the future of the dog is then made. Once the initial veterinarian check-up is complete, the Boxer is then placed in a foster or adoptive home.
Each Boxer receives any necessary immunizations and other medical attention it needs. If the dog is of appropriate age and is in good health, spay or neuter surgery will be done. If the Boxer is adopted before being able to handle the stress of neutering, the adoptive family will be required to perform in a time frame designed by Boxer Rescue.

How often do you get Boxers in?
We have no control over the number or frequency of dogs that need rescuing. We always hope the numbers are small and the need infrequent. Finding the perfect Boxer to join your family, whether through rescue or a breeder always takes time, so try to be patient.

Can I pick the kind of Boxer I want?
Yes, it is to everyone's benefit that you find the dog that will fit into your lifestyle. You can specify the type of boxer you are looking for, but it may lenghten the amount of time you might have to wait for an adoption.

What happens if the boxer I picked out isn't working?
After your family has been approved for placement and a rescue Boxer becomes available for adoption, your adoption fee is held during the one-month "trial" period, while everyone gets to know one another. If you have any questions during this time (and after too), you are strongly encouraged to contact a rescue volunteer. We are always be available to answer questions and help make the transition as smooth as possible.
If within the one-month trial period you decide this Boxer is not the right dog for you, your check will be mailed to you upon the return of the Boxer to a rescue volunteer.
All adopters are required to sign an agreement stating that if at anytime the owner cannot keep the dog placed with them, and wishes to sell, trade, or dispose of the Boxer, Boxer Rescue MUST be notified, and said Boxer relinquished and returned to Boxer Rescue. BOXER RESCUE WILL ALWAYS TAKE BACK THE BOXER.

How much will I get for giving you my Boxer?
We do not buy Boxers from their owners. If we did then it would deplete our medical fund so much that we would be unable to help those rescues that need medical care.
When surrendering a boxer to rescue, you will be asked for a monetary donation to help us defray costs.

How do I know that my Boxer will find a good home?
We ask all prospective adopters to fill out an application and we do home visits to check out the home situation. All Boxers are spayed/neutered before going to their new home so they are not used for breeding purposes. We also micro-chip every Boxer. This microchip assures us that if the dog becomes lost, it will be returned to the Northwoods Boxer Rescue, rather than the new owner. The adoptive family would then be called to find out the circumstances of the dog becoming lost.

What do I need to give you when I surrender my Boxer?
Whatever makes the surrendering family most comfortable. Sometimes owners bring the dog's dishes, toys, beds, crates, leashes, and treats, which are appreciated. There is no pressure to give up any of those items.
Current medical records or treating/current veterinarian's phone number are much appreciated and help with our evaluation.

Can I check up on the Boxer that I surrendered to you?
This can be a sticky situation. We have no problem letting you know if the Boxer has found a new home and what the general home life will be for her/him. There are times that the new owners would like to contact the old owners to find out more history on the dog, and that is completely up to you. I will not give out your phone number unless you would like to be involved in the adoption process. The flip side is also true, in that I will not give out the new owners phone number to a previous owner for the very same reason.

About how long does it take for a Boxer to find a new home?
All rescues Boxers are kept in foster homes until a suitable placement is found, which generally takes only 2-3 weeks.
There are times that we can not place a dog due to medical and/or behavioral issues. It is not an easy for us to decide to put to sleep any Boxer that comes to our program and is done only when all other resources have been exhausted.
